Join our fun crew as the Student Engagement Specialist of the TRIO-SSS program at Marian University of Wisconsin! The institution is a small, co-ed, Catholic founded university in Fond du Lac, WI – centrally located and equally distanced just one-hour from Green Bay, Madison and Milwaukee. The student population comes from across the nation, with the majority from rural to mid-size towns in addition to the metropolitan areas of Milwaukee, WI and Chicago, IL.

POSITION SUMMARY: Provides outreach and engages with students through direct contact, event planning and facilitation, along with overall program support to improve student involvement and retention. Communicates with students beginning with recruitment into the program, through the POP (Pre-Orientation Program) college transition event we provide incoming freshmen, and by maintaining ongoing outreach via various formats (personal, print, social media, video, etc.) on a regular basis to support and increase interaction with the SSS program. Encourages, motivates and coaches students to promote their personal growth and academic success.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Bachelor’s degree required (in Communications, Education, Human Services, Social Work or related field). Master’s degree preferred (but not required).
Knowledge of student development, educational advising and college transitions, learning styles and strategies, learning disabilities, and the impact of culture on learning.
Strong interpersonal, written/oral communication and time-management skills.
Self-motivation and commitment to coaching students to promote their personal growth and academic success.
Experience in TRIO, Student Support Services, or other educational opportunity grant program and/or experience working with a population of students similar to SSS participants.
A preference for an individual with background similar to SSS participants we serve: first-generation, limited-income, differently-abled, underrepresented, etc.
Preference for a bilingual, multi-lingual, or individual proficient in speaking and reading a second language, preferably Spanish or Hmong.
