Come help students find academic success with Upward Bound at Virginia Tech! We offer weekly tutoring, monthly activities, and a residential summer program to help students graduate from high school and enroll and graduate from post-secondary education.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Upward Bound programs, the Project Advisor is responsible for assisting with the administration, implementation and continuation of the U.S. Department of Education-funded Upward Bound Roanoke City/ TRIO project. This project is dedicated to preparing high school students in Roanoke City, Virginia to pursue post-secondary education. Upward Bound: Roanoke City serves students who meet income-eligibility guidelines, are potential first-generation college students, and/or are considered academically at-risk, according to federal definitions. The project serves 60 students at William Fleming and Patrick Henry high schools. This position is embedded at the high schools four days per week, and is on campus in Blacksburg one day per week. During the summer program, this position will be based on campus in Blacksburg.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Recruitment, retention and participation of program participants in accordance to federal regulations and departmental guidelines.
Planning and coordination, implementation, chaperoning, and evaluation of academic, social, and cultural programs for students and families.
Meet with students for in-person services, group workshops and support to help students overcome barriers to post-secondary education.
